If you've got a scented candle habit like we have, it definitely pays to know the best way to burn them, so if you want your candles to smell stronger, last longer and burn more evenly, read on for some top tips!

The First Burn

You should always burn your candle for 3 to 4 hours the first time you light it. This allows the top layer of wax to fully melt to the sides of the glass, ensuring even burning when next lighting it. Wax has a memory so it’s important not to skip this step or the candle might tunnel (when a candle burns down its centre, leaving hard wax around the outside).

Draughts

Try to keep your candle away from any draughts as they will cause it to burn quicker. If you see the flame flickering and thrashing around then try moving it somewhere more sheltered.

Trim your wick!

Trimming the wick between burns is really important. The longer the wick the quicker your candle will burn, so trimming it will make it last much longer. Trim the wick every time you use your scented candle and make sure it isn't longer than 5mm when you light it after the first burn. You can use scissors, nail clippers or a special wick trimmer to this.

If you follow these 3 simple tips you should find your scented candles burn much longer, but don’t worry, if you’ve got a candle that’s nearing the end of its life there’s no shortage of replacements you can choose from our shop!
